Dear Andrew,
Please can you tell me the title and author of this 1970’s book? I would love to try and find a copy as I am reading everything I can find about Mr George. I was at Norwich School of Art in the mid seventies but sadly I hadn’t discovered this amazing painter at that time. I might have applied to go to Camberwell instead of Norwich!!!
I have the 1980 catalogue of his exhibition at the Art’s Council. The text is written by Lawrence Gowing, a contemporary of Patrick George, but you don’t learn very much about the artist and his thoughts. In fact, quite a lot of it is arty waffle.
Would love to hear from you,
Thank you

When I was in art college at Epsom School of Art and Design, UK It was always checked out of the library.

The Tate has some larger impressive paintings from his mid career. Rarely on show. Hickbush is well know, I had a postcard of it on my studio wall as a student.

I hope at 90 i am outside still painting.
Andrew Wykes

What I enjoyed the most about George’s work (seeing it next to Uglow) is that it was slower, he lets more things in and they are more tenderly painted and organic.
